About Me

In a nutshell…

As a creative polymath - fine artist, playwright, screenwriter, author, lyricist, set designer and theatre director - who has worked across many genres, perhaps the most common themes in my work, are an exploration of the mystery of identity, a celebration of diversity, and a lifelong quest to break free from the psychosocial shackles imposed at birth.

As an introverted ten year old, little did I know that the fusion of narrative and visual storytelling that I employed to create my own comics, would one day lead me to become a fully fledged member of The Society of Authors, the Writers Guild of America West, and The Dramatists Guild.

My professional career as an multidisciplinary artist began in earnest in the music industry as a performance artist / lyricist, with the creation of the PS:Surrealism album, band and live shows. That in turn led to a pivotal, life-changing meeting with the man who would become my mentor Professor Richard Ross, and an invitation from the godfather of British surrealism Roland Penrose to attend the premiere UK screening of Luis Buñuel’s L’Age D’or at the ICA. For the first time in my life I felt truly at home; I had found my tribe.

In 1984, awarded a scholarship from Goldcrest Films, I studied film-making at the Royal College of Art. Tasked with creating the UK’s first ‘MA Creative Film Producing Course’, I graduated with a MA Distinction, and a clutch of award-winning short film productions to my name.

Encouraged by the legendary film director Fred Zinnemann (High Noon, From Here to Eternity), who read my first spec feature script, I then got serious about screenwriting. After almost a decade in the minimum wage wilderness, seeking employment wherever I could find it, I finally secured my first feature screenplay commission from Paramount Pictures.

Alongside my journey as an award-winning screenwriter and published playwright and author, I have continued to make abstract fine art, and my debut solo show The Weight of Fire was hosted by The Square One Gallery on the Kings Road, Chelsea. My prints, photo-montage, mixed-media works and codagraphs have been exhibited internationally and feature in private collections all around the world.
